Henning’s Nursery Reveal

Ahhhhh. I can’t believe I am finally sharing these images with you. I feel like it has been the longest time coming. After struggling to get pregnant for so long, this nursery was the ultimate treat to myself. I wanted to make it my own little haven for baby and me and that is exactly what it has become! It’s so soft, and serene and I truly feel a sense of relaxation come over me when I walk in. It is such a happy space and I can’t wait to spend many more years creating memories here <3

I went with a soft blue palate knowing full well that we may have girls next and that is ok with me! I am not really a pink girl, so I would’ve chosen soft blues if Henning had been a girl anyway. When {and if! God willing!} we become pregnant with baby #2, we will move Henning into a ‘big boy room’ and this space will continue to be the nursery for him or her. 🙂

Without further adieu, here is Henning’s nursery – the place where I have spent most of my time these last seven months and couldn’t be happier about it! I hope you like it <3

Room for two – unsure at first, I ended up loving having two rocking chairs

My little guard dog! Who knew a dog bed could be so beautiful? Custom via Amy Berry Home // Similar

Lamp: Exact // Similar

Pillow: Custom // Similar

Chair + ottoman + pillow were custom made via Amy Berry

Side Table: via Amy Berry // Similar here // Storage basket // Piggy Bank

My husband’s cowboy boots from when he was a child. How beautiful are they? I treasure them! I can’t wait until Henning is old enough to wear them.

Storage basket // It has been very useful to have this basket within arms reach when nursing Henning {especially in those first few months!} It changes, but usually you can find water, snacks, Advil, nipple cream, hand sanitizer, chapstick, burp cloths and wash cloths inside.

Another priceless treasure – our Henning was named after a relative on my husband’s Swiss side whom passed away many years ago. This was his baby spoon.

Those sweet initials! I love that this spoon was clearly used and loved. It is such a special momento and eventually I plan to have it framed so we can keep it safe and admire it for forever.

Stacking baskets // These are currently acting as a stand for our Nanit camera, but will also soon double as a storage bin for all of Henning’s toys.

Nanit baby monitor with wall stand // We have loved this baby monitor {read more about why here} // Lucite baby crib {similar}

Bumper: custom made via Amy Berry Home {see similar on her site}

Crib pillow {similar} // I designed this monogram with Janel at Hip Hip Hooray. It is now one of my favorite gifts to give friends who are expecting little boys. I think it is so sweet.

Nesting baskets // Never met a scallop I didn’t love!

Henning’s closet

Storage baskets // Climbing man purchased in Switzerland {our plan is to hang this from the ceiling!} // Bib {this beautiful bib was a gift! Henning wore it on his baptism day}

Velvet Baby Hangers // Closet Dividers // My mom gave us these precious little closet dividers to separate his clothes. We loved them and they were so useful!

These storage baskets not only look pretty, but have been useful for organizing his blankets, swaddles, lovies and more

I had my chairs custom made to be taller than most because of how tall I am. I love them. They fit my body perfectly! I also love that this ottoman doubles as storage

Basketweave Carpet: Stark {no longer sold} // Ottoman: custom made

Curtain fabric: Schumacher

Wallpaper: Scalamandre

Light fixture source: unknown

Chest of drawers // Mirror was custom made {very similar here} // Lucite topper // Lamp

Love this little clothes hamper {source unknown}

Acrylic Changing Tray // Humidifier // Wipe Warmer

Changing Pad // Changing pad cover // Baby brush // Wipe warmer

I die for this mirror! It is exactly what I wanted

My little slice of heaven! The room still brings me so much joy every single day and I feel so grateful that I have a precious baby boy and wonderful husband to make memories in it for many years to come <3

Gift Ideas for Valentine’s Day

You probably already know that Valentine’s Day has become one of my favorite holidays. I love a theme, and what better theme than love? With all the red and pink hearts, the candy and cards, it really is such a special time to let those around you know just how much you love them.

This year feels especially special because we have our sweet Henning. Even though he is too little to understand, I am still sending out Valentine’s Day cards to both sets of grandparents and to all the cousins. I also plan to dress him up and take him to my husband’s office to pass out candy. I really can’t help myself – I’m just so excited to have a sweet baby and experience everything with him!

Now, you’re probably wondering what I’m getting Henning and/or my loved ones for the holiday. Well, like I mentioned before, Henning is too little to really understand so I’m just going to get him a big balloon. As silly and small as it sounds, all babies love balloons {right?!} and I think he’ll have a lot of fun playing with one! Especially a big red heart balloon 🙂

As for everyone else, I teamed up with Nordstrom to share my favorite Valentine’s Day gift ideas. We all know buying gifts for your SO or friends on Valentine’s Day can be stressful. But I’m here to make it easy for you! All of these items are available and ready to ship just in time for the big day {which is exactly a week from today!} and they would all make that certain someone in your life extremely happy. Just trust me 🙂

SWIM

I’ve mentioned this in the past, but I grew up getting swimsuits from my mom on Valentine’s Day. It was always such a nice reminder that summer and warmer weather were on it’s way! The diagonal colors and one shoulder detail of #25 are all I want right now. I’m in love with the pink/red/white color way but if that’s not your thing, it also comes in other colors! Speaking of one shoulder details, #29 may be the coolest swimsuit I’ve ever seen. It’s almost like art! You could easily throw on pants and wear this out and about. It’s pricey – but consider it a 2-n-1. Not picutred: My pick for the men will always be these suits by Vilebrequin. They are incredibly made and have super cute patterns. This neon pink one would be my Valentine’s Day choice!

BEAUTY

My husband finally caught on that sometimes the best gift, is the one you won’t splurge on and buy for yourself. For me, that is always some splurge-worthy beauty product 🙂 Most recently, it was this facial oil from Cle de Peau that he gifted me over Christmas. I had had my eye on it for months but hadn’t pulled the trigger. I was so excited! Some favorite products that I think would make great gifts are: #5 is a serum I discovered about a year ago and I can always see and feel a huge difference on my skin on nights when I use before bed! Especially post partum, my skin feels a lot more hydrated on the nights when I use it! #12 is a product I’ve been using for a few years, and while an investment, I feel like it is a unique product unlike anything else on the market. Comprised of all natural and organic botanicals and essential oils, this serum evens out skin tone, improves texture and makes your skin glow in a way I haven’t seen other products achieve. #16 are masks that I save to use before a special event. Enhanced with a special ingredient called ‘pitera’, these masks offer more hydration than any other mask I’ve used. They also add an almost instant brightness to the skin that makes them worth ever penny. Honorable mention: The GloPro {#22} and the Dyson hairdryer {#23} need no explanation – they’d both make incredible gifts for the beauty obsessed person in your life!

CLOTHING & ACCESSORIES

My husband first discovered this brand {#1} a few months ago and has since bought three pairs. He swears they make it feel like he’s walking on air, so when I saw this cute pink pair I thought it would make the most perfect Valentine’s Day gift. Snag a pair for your man too – I promise he will love! Maybe we am lame, but a new pair of shoes has always been the way to my heart. 🙂 Speaking of hearts, I am DEAD over this wicker heart shaped purse. Whyyyyyyy must it be so expensive!? It’s so fun and playful and would make the most perfect Valentine’s day gift. If you are reading this and have lotsa dollars, please buy one so I can live vicariously through you 🙂 These thongs {#6} are a classic no brainer and this set is so colorful and cute. Everyone wears underwear so you know you would be giving a gift that would actually be used! If I had a little girl, I would love #17 & #19 and #28 is a new color {die over this neon pink!} of my tried and true all-time-favorite cashmere sweater. Lastly, my husband and I both wear these slippers {#20} every day and they are the best {men’s version}. They have a no slip grip sole and a shearling lined interior and are just so warm and cozy without ever making your feet too hott {I hate when my feet sweat!} Would make the best gift.

MISC

Last but not least, you can’t go wrong gifting this set of studs #8 {I wear mine everyday} and they look so real. This digital picture frame is amazing and would also be so cute for a parent or maybe your husband’s office! They make it really easy to upload photos and you can switch them out or update them whenever you want. Little heart rings {#15} would be so cute to gift to your best friend, and #4 or #11 would be great for the person in your life who loves to entertain.

Nordstrom has an incredible {and extensive!} selection of products that would be incredible for gifting your loved one this Valentine’s Day. Make sure to take advantage of their free shipping and pick something out you think your loved one would love. Check out more of the goodies here, or shop my picks above or below. Let me know in the comments if you have any favorites that I missed!

How I’m Fixing My Dry Skin

Ok, if you’ve been following along on my Instagram, you know I’ve been dealing with some serious dry skin post Colorado {we went over New Years!} Couple the dry air and zero humidty with my postpartum hormones and you get ugly, flaky, scratchy skin that I am SO sick of! So I decided I was going to spend the last three weeks going back to my tried & true products that I used when I first really started caring about beauty. Over the years I have tried so many products, but the following items are products that I have loved {and used!} for a long, long time.

GloPro Microneedling Tool – I first wrote about this tool back in early 2018, but I had bought and been using it at that point for several months. Somewhere along my infertility journey, I stopped using my GloPro {along with most of my beauty products} and I just never got back into the habit of microneedling. Until now that is! If you aren’t aware, Microneedling helps stimulate collagen production by rolling tiny needles over the surface of the skin. These needles create ‘microtears’ or microscoptic wounds to the skin which trigger the body’s repair functions to create new skin cells. Microneedling is supposed to help with wrinkles, fine lines and even stretch marks. It also helps with product absorption, and that is my main reason for picking it back up. I wanted to open up my skin to allow it to take in the creams, serums and oils I was slathering on. Although an investment, I find this tool extremely helpful in doing just that! It is a great way to prep your skin for all the products to come 🙂

The first rule in skincare is that you always apply your products from lightest to heaviest, so I am starting my routine with a few splashes of the SK-II treatment essence. Another product I have been obsessed with for years, this essence is made up of a special ingredient called Pitera which helps make the skin feel like a baby’s bottom {it is literally referred to as miracle water across the industry}. It’s that special. You can read more about Petera here. As I mentioned before, my skin feels like absolute sandpaper, so this product was an absolute must for me.

Next I apply my Kiehl’s serums – either the Daily Reviving Concentrate for day, or the Recovery Serum for night. Both are absolutely tried & true favorites and are fantastic. They are lightweight, non-greasy and absorb immediately into the skin. As far as serums go, these are both hydrating, a great price point and super easy to add into your routine. For me, they are a no brainer.

If you want to add an extra serum in {this isn’t a necessity IMO because it’s a big investment} add in the Vitner’s Daughter Botanical Serum. Made of all natural high end organic ingredients, Vitner’s Daughter made a huge splash when it hit the market a few years ago. It personally took some getting used to {it’s thick and has a very strong floral scent} but it did add a nice layer of hydration and subtle glow to my skin. I add this on top of the Kiehl’s at night only {find it too thick for daytime usage}.

The Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair. Oh man. This serum is a relatively new favorite for me {have only been using it for 6 months} but I am sold on using it for the rest of my life. Seriously. I’m not just being dramatic – it is the one product I use where I can see and feel a drastic difference in my skin on nights when I don’t use it. It plumps fine lines, hydrates the skin and makes me wake up looking brighter. It’s been one of the most popular beauty product on the market for eons {like, literally decades}, and now I know why.

Ok, now for my moisturizer. I have been using Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream for years. It was literally the first moisturizer I bought when I decided to ditch the $5 one I had been wearing since middle school. I still love it to this day. It’s creamy without being thick, and doesn’t leave your skin feeling weighed down. It’s extremely hydrating and goes on so easy. I also appreciate that it doesn’t have a crazy strong scent {I’m so sensitive to that!} A jar is pricey, but will last you 6+ months.

The last item I slather on is a good oil. This fancy one from Cle de Peau was a Christmas gift from my husband {thank you to the beauty counter lady at Nordstrom!} and I absolutely love it. It’s heavy though, so I only use at night, and it definitely does not soak right into the skin. But I do notice a big difference in how plump and hydrated my skin looks in the morning so I don’t mind!

Ok really – last but not least is my eye cream. I love the Auto Correct by Sunday Riley. It goes on smooth and leaves a cooling feeling on the skin which makes me look more awake and feel less puffy in the morning. I always use my ring finger to apply at night and wake up feeling like I don’t look as tired as I feel.

Honorable mention has to go to these masks – they’re investment, but they’re truly one of the best sheet masks on the market. I’ve always saved them for nights before a big event and I always make sure to use them twice to really get my moneys worth. My skin feels soft and looks brighter after using and all my lines are plumped and firm. I can’t recommend this mask enough.

All of these items were discovered and purchased via Nordstrom’s expansive beauty department. They carry everything from La Mer to Laura Mercier and everything in between and truly have the best selection of any department store out there. Another main reason why I shop beauty at Nordstrom vs. any other retailer is because of their incredible return policy. You can try a product and if it doesn’t work, you can always bring it back for a full refund! This is so important with skincare when you don’t know how your skin is going to react to a certain product. When I’m spending big bucks, this policy gives me peace of mind.

I know it may seem like a lot, but all of these items, in their own way, have drastically helped with my crazy dry post-travel skin. I have used and trusted most of these brands for many years so I can genuinely tell you they are some of the best of the best. As for my skin, it’s not perfect yet, but it is lightyears better than it was a few weeks ago. I will, of course, keep you posted on how my skin continues to evolve {you never know with these hormones!} but excited to see the progress thus far.

SO! There you have it. My totally new-but-old skincare routine as it’s been in the last few weeks. Let me know in the comments if you have any tried & true skincare favs – I’m always dying to know more about other people’s favorites and why!

How I Am Upgrading My Sleep Routine

Top: Lett Montreal Rib Top // Pants: Lett Heathrow Wide Leg Pant // Diffuser: Vitruvi Stone Diffuser // Eye Mask: NIGHT Silk Eye Mask

Ok, so here’s the deal. Henning is finally sleeping through the night which means I can really go back to focusing on my own beauty rest! I’ve always been someone who needs a lot of sleep, so I was excited to discover Verishop’s Sleep shop. It’s a curated selection of sleep essentials from supplements to tech items that will making getting some shut eye so much easier. I scored this super cozy set from Lett and this cooling eye gel eye mask. It has a gel insert that I keep in my mini fridge and take out right before bed. The cool beads help reduce swelling, fine lines and wrinkles {lord knows I need all the help I can get!} Not only that, but it just feels good. I got the diffuser because I’ve always heard about them, and I figured there is no better time than now to treat myself! I’m excited to get some lavender or eucalyptus oils for it {kicking myself for not ordering them when I got the diffuser!} A relaxing scent, some cooling beads, and a cup of chamomile tea – I’m thinking my new routine is sounding better and better by the minute. Do you have any favorite rituals before bed I should try? I’m down to try anything I can to get the most relaxation in before bed. Let me know in the comments! 🙂

Verishop is one of my new favorites when it comes to online shopping. I catch myself checking out their new arrivals section at least once or twice a week and always discovering cool new designers like Staud, RE/DONE, and Amur {loving this top}, as well as seeing tons of old favs like Free People, Saloni and The Great. With free 1 day shipping and free returns, I never have to feel guilty about ordering. Which means I’ll be getting those oils ASAP 😉 Happy Friday and happy sleep to you all!
