When you have a newborn, you think about eating ALL the time. Just not for yourself! Has the baby eaten enough? Do I need to wake them up to feed? Are they crying because they’re hungry? It goes on and on. Honestly, when you are trying to keep a little baby alive and happily fed, it’s sometimes hard to think about your own needs at all – even something as basic as eating dinner. When Henning was a newborn, I was so preoccupied with him that my meals would often consist of whatever I could eat/make in under 5 minutes {i.e., cold pizza or toast} It wasn’t always ideal but when hunger kicks in, and you have a sleeping baby in your arms, you just want something easy and fast!
So with that being said, whenever a friend has a baby, I like to bring over a meal(s) that the whole family can enjoy. This way, mom can focus on the baby and worry about one less thing! My go-to recipe? This one from Pinch of Yum. It’s sooooo delicious and full of hearty vegetables that nourish the soul. I swear, even picky toddlers and husbands love this soup! The best part though is that mom can easily throw a bowl in the microwave and minutes later have something yummy and quick to eat.
Our good friends, Austin and Sarah, recently welcomed a baby boy into their family and I knew this soup would be perfect. With Covid {heck and flu season!}, I wanted to have my groceries delivered. It not only saves me time, it limits both mine and Henning’s unnecessary exposure to getting sick. Walmart has an incredible assortment – everything from fruits and vegetables to diapers and Tupperware so I knew their Online Pick up + Delivery service would be perfect for getting me all the ingredients I needed in the safest and fastest way possible.
How to order: Just go to www.walmart.com/grocery or download the Walmart mobile app and enter in any ingredient you need into the ‘search my store’ search bar. It’s seriously that easy. Once you finish shopping and have hit the $35 minimum, you can choose pick up or delivery. I selected my items around lunchtime and had them in my hands 2 hours later. It was amazing. I also really loved that my Walmart delivery associate texted me when he was outside dropping off the items so we never had to have direct contact. It was safe and easy.
We dropped the meal off at our friends house last week and it was a hit. The recipe makes so much that Sarah was not only able to feed her family, but also have several days worth of lunches too. My favorite way to enjoy it is with a big scoop of sour cream and some fresh avocado so of course I included those as well. I may have also included a batch of my all time favorite molasses cookies because why not ๐ Will have to share that recipe on the blog soon!
I know I will definitely be using Walmart’s Pick Up & Delivery again. For just a small fee, I can get everything I need delivered to my door, and I have never appreciated that more than during these last few months! Happy shopping and let me know in the comments if you have any fav recipes for the new mamas in your life!
