For the first time in a long time, we have a summer where I’m not pregnant and all our children are older than one. It has given us this amazing capacity to enjoy things like swimming and travel that were logistically challenging with a newborn or while SUPER pregnant. I’m enjoying a little more sleep and a little more time to lazily meander around the web looking at things that catch my eye. Here are a few things that are on my mind this month:
I’m dying to try it! It looks like that perfect sheer matte stain. The only thing holding me back? I want all four colors! Although they have light colors, I have such a weakness for dark lipstick.
- Julia Reed’s South by Julia Reed
While I was home in New Orleans last week, our cousin Zizi hosted us for dinner (probably 20 family members showed up). Even though she’s an OB/GYN, had just worked a 24 hour shift, and has 4 kids under 7, she managed to blow it out of the water. We walked in to find a grapefruit and rosemary cocktail on her entry table (pink with sprigs of rosemary – so pretty) which was quickly followed by bacon wrapped watermelon rind pickles (no words – insanely delicious). When I asked her where she got her recipes, she pointed to this book Julia Reed’s South. I promptly bought it and it is so much fun! I can’t wait to get cooking. First things first – ordering watermelon rind pickles…
- Dresses, dresses, and more dresses
Maybe because I feel like a sausage in the heat in jeans, but this summer I’ve been 100% in shorts or dresses. How pretty are these two? The yellow one is perfect for the outdoor concert I have coming up this weekend and the pink one is on my wish list for my husband’s cousin’s wedding (I just wish it would go on sale already)!
- Big girl bedding
My daughter’s birthday is coming up next month and she wants a big girl bed more than anything. For example this is a typical conversation these days:
Me: “Your grandmother asked if you might like a costume for your birthday?”
Her: “No, I only want a big girl bed with purple sheets. Nothing else.”
As a result, I’ve been browsing lots of purple sheets and quilts! How cute are these pegasus sheets that grandma decided to get for the birthday girl. I think my little one would like this quilt as well.
- Wire sculpture
I really want to get this wire sculpture for the room my oldest two share. How sweet is this?
I’m starting to have to fill out school year forms and my local grocery store has put out the school supplies! I want the joy of a lazy summer to last just a little bit longer…
