In light of my recent trip to Key Biscayne, I wanted to put all of my recs together for you guys to reference when planning your next trip. We love Key Biscayne and always have a great time when visiting – such a low-key, family-friendly spot, perfect for a relaxing beach getaway. However, I love that South Beach is a quick 15 minute drive away if you wanted to spend the day shopping on Lincoln Road or have a *festive* night on the town 🤪
TRAVEL
Traveling into Miami has always been easy {at least from Dallas!} There are multiple direct flights everyday and the airport is easy to navigate. I will say that the pandemic has made the rental car situation a little complicated {we once had to wait too long to get our car} so we honestly have just used Uber to get to Key Biscayne and then golf cart everywhere on the island once there. If we want to go into South Beach, we just call an Uber. Super easy! The one thing I’ll note – from our experience most of the drivers speak spanish and little english, so just be prepared to use google translate if you don’t speak the language!
LODGING
We always stay at The Ocean Club, a members-only community in the heart of Key Biscayne. With that being said, my recommendation for lodging would be The Ritz-Carlton. The Ritz is right next door to The Ocean Club {they actually share the same beach!} and I would say the two hotels are relatively similar with the same amenities such as spa, golf, and restaurants. I love how secluded and relaxing both of these hotels are, having quite the opposite feel of the “party” scene of South Beach.
GOLF CARTS
Once arriving on the island, we travel everywhere by golf cart which is SO fun {really gives it that ‘island’ feel}. We have had great experiences renting through KB Green which have both 4-seater and 6-seater golf cart rental options. The 4-seater rental is $70 per day and the 6-seater rental is $90 per day {note: the rental price decreases if rented for 7 days or more}. You have to pick up the golf cart during their business hours but can drop-off at any time- simply drop the key into the box on the outside of their building.
DINING
On our last visit, we went to Kazumi {Japanese} and Milanezza {Italian} and I would recommend both. The food, service, and atmosphere were great and both restaurants were very laid-back. Other restaurant recommendations I have not personally tried but have heard great things about include KeBo {Spanish/Mediterranean}, Costa Med {Mix of Everything}, El Gran Inka {Peruvian}, Puntino {Italian/Mediterranean}, and Lightkeepers at the Ritz {Seafood}. Last but not least, we discovered the cutest little gourmet market when we were there last time called The Golden Hog. Both my husband and I were shocked we had never been before! They had so many wonderful {+ super clean!} brands I love, plus a smoothie bar, sandwiches {great for pick up!} and so much more. We will definitely make a point to go there every time we visit from now on.
BABYSITTING
We chose to bring a nanny on this trip to help us with Henning {I can’t get around like I would like to at 7.5 months pregnant 😅}, but a follower messaged me and recommended ‘The Babysitting Company’ which is a babysitting service offered in Miami/Key Biscayne. They offer tailored babysitting services which would be perfect for tourists. If you stay at The Ritz, they typically offer their ‘Ritz Kids’ program but it is not currently offered due to COVID.
ACTIVITIES
The Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park is a national park sitting right on Key Biscayne with lots of activities such as kayaking, fishing, and bicycling. There is also an outdoor restaurant overlooking the water in the park called ‘The Lighthouse Cafe’ which boats dock and eat at {you can access it without a boat as well!} There is another park called Crandon Park which has public tennis courts and a public golf course, perfect for visitors.
My ‘activity’ of choice while visiting Key Biscayne is laying on the beach with a magazine {and when not pregnant, a cocktail 😉} but there are plenty of outdoor and water-based activities for those who prefer a more active vacation.
Make sure to leave a comment with your Key Biscayne favorites and let me know if you try any of mine!
